Jun 17, 2015 How to View EXIF Data of Images on Mac with Photos app. Right-click (or Control+click) on any picture in the Photos app and choose “Get Info”. For iOS users we developed an app, which also have photos extension app and can easily view and remove exif data “Exif viewer by fluntro”.
Is there a way to see the full metadata information included on photos added to iPhoto? My camera records the GPS coordinates and identifies the specific building that is closest to the camera while iPhoto info only identifies the general vicinity. For example, while in Heidelburg, Germany, my camera identified the name of the buildings that were closest to me.
That information should be part of the metadata recorded by the camera. Shouldn't this information be included on the iPhoto information page? I use a Nikon Coolpix S9500 with built-in GPS. I use a Mac computer. My camera indicates that the picture is at: 'Deutsches Apotheken-Museum' which is correct.
The 'knight' was above the entrance to the museum which is located inside the Heidelberg Castle. It is nice to have the names of these 'Points of Interest'.
However, it's interesting that the software didn't identify 'Heidelberg Castle' which might be a more useful name. Apparently, there is a map type database which can be accessed through the Nikon web site and updated periodically by downloading it via the flash card memory of the camera. It would be useful if there was a way to install the database on my computer as well so that the information can appear when the GPS coordinates are present much like the map information which iPhoto uses. Since this appears to be a proprietary feature of Nikon it's very unlikely that I'm going to get this feature anytime soon.
Thanks for the help! Thanks, the Preview program that came with my Mac is very cool. I wondered why it existed. Unfortunately, while it really provided a lot of information on the metadata it still didn't get at the information that is programmed into my camera. Upon reading my camera manual it appears that this information is called POI (Points of Interest) and uses special software that Nikon is proprietary to them. To access the information on my computer it appears that I will need to install the Nikon 'ViewNX2' software that came with the camera. I hate installing software that duplicates/complicates photo management and doesn't add significant advantage.
I guess that I'll install it just out of curiosity to see if the information shows up. If you have time as a test download the demo version of, launch it, drag one of the photos into its window and check the metadata in it by clicking on the thumbnail and then on this icon in the toolbar: and then here to activate all of the metadata fields Or post one of the full sized files here if not too big to add and I'll download and test. MP1 is a professional DAM (digital asset management) app that can read all of the available EXIF and IPTC metadata fields and write to the IPTC fields in the file. I'm using EXIF Viewer, Preview and Media Pro. It's how I downloaded the file.
Just now I opened the photo link in a new window and dragged it to the Desktop. That version has all of the metadata. I was just downloading the preview version that Jive creates.
MP1 also shows the instructions field that Preview does in your screenshot along with the GPS coordinates iPhoto identifies the photo as Heidelberg castle. Had to click once on the pin to get the name to show. I think we stayed there back in 1997 when we took a Rhine river cruise.
